Sensoji Temple, my serenity place in the heart of Tokyo
Decided to go to Asakusa since It’s been a while since I last visited the temple there. And as usual, huge crowd and foreigners like me are all heading to see this popular tourist spot, the Sensoji temple.
Sensoji (浅草寺, Sensōji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a Buddhist temple located inAsakusa. It is one of Tokyo’s most colorful and popular temples.
The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo’s oldest temple.
Soon as I get there, I inhaled the smoke from the incense. They told me that this smoke is believed to be giving you wisdom and beauty. I’ve tried this before, and though I’m having difficulties in breathing when I inhale any smoke, I’m doing this ritual because I somehow believe that there must be something about it. If not, no one will believe it, right?
So after praying for my wish and thanking God for the beautiful events that happened to my life, I went straight to the food stalls. There’s a bunch of food stalls lining the path way to the entrance. I had an interesting dish- rice rolled in bacon with a stick. Yes, like hotdog on stick, and taste so good!
After eating, I walked around the temple grounds. There are still cherry blossoms in some of the sakura trees so I took time to capture it.
So beautiful! I also, see some tulips and different types of flower planted nearby the trees. They are all blooming in bright colors!
Senosji temple has been my serenity place ever since I first went there. Whenever I need a place to calm my soul or to relax, I go here.
I hope you guys could try to visit Sensoji temple and don’t forget to comment about your experience.
